“Matt Shepard and his story have led me on an inspiring, challenging and deeply meaningful journey that I continue to this day. In composing Considering Matthew Shepard  I wanted to create, within a musical framework, a space for reflection, consideration and unity around his life and legacy.”– Craig Hella Johnson, composer

Good Afternoon!

We are so excited to have you join us for this very special event today. Our singers, staff and volunteers have been working together to put this performance together and our hope is that you leave feeling compelled to recognize the diversity of humanity in our world today…be respectful, find kindness and embrace what unifies us.

The music in this work is beautiful and varies in style – and sometimes the lyrics are uncomfortable to sing and to hear but it’s all part of the intended message from the composer to “All of Us”. We hope you are “open – to hear this story”.

Please consider staying for the panel discussion immediately following the performance to process what has been seen and heard. Thanks to those on the panel for being willing to share their reactions and insights.

We are also grateful to the many organizations dedicated to social justice and assistance to those who need emotional support in the face of prejudice, inequality and exclusion. Many of them spread the word of this event to their followers and some are represented today. Please take some time to stop by and learn more about them.

Sincerely,

Carol Zeh
